The purpose of Greening the MLS  is to have every green certified home and energy efficient feature accounted for, while being careful not to add any that do not meet the standard.  Certain markets, such as Seattle, Atlanta and Austin are proving that green-built homes and energy efficient features in the home can have a home sell quicker and for more money.  Eventually this will be common across the country.  The Park City MLS and WFR MLS have already laid the foundation necessary with the addition of green features to the MLS.

The appraisal industry is educating its members on the added value associated with green features, and providing them with new tools such as the Appraisal Institute’s Residential Green and Energy Efficient Addendum.  In order for the MLS database to support the appraiser’s accurate assignment of value, the MLS information needs to be as complete and error free as possible.
